You can go cycling and mountain biking on numerous forest and gravel roads, as well as on barely trafficked roads directly from Galå Fjällgård. Whether you bring your own bike or e-bike, or hire one of our rental mountain bikes, you will find a variety of cycling routes in southern Oviksfjäll. We have route recommendations available for our guests.
Fishing is highly popular in Sweden. In the region’s various fishing areas, you can catch mainly game fish such as trout, grayling and Arctic char. Enthusiastic anglers will find a wide variety of tranquil lakes, babbling mountain streams and diverse rivers.
In Jämtland, trailrunning combines physical challenge with an intense connection to nature. Around Galå Fjällgård, you can alternate between narrow forest paths and demanding mountain runs. A combination of summit runs and gnarled mountain birch forests also offers runners challenging trails.
When paddling by canoe or kayak, you experience the unspoilt beauty of northern Sweden up close from the water. In the southern Oviksfjäll region, several idyllic lakes await, that can be reached by car and are ideal for canoeing or kayaking. For our guests, two canoes are available for rent at a lake along the river Ljungan.
A trip to Sweden with a 4x4 or off-road vehicle is sure to set any adventurer’s heart beat faster. There are exciting routes to explore for off-road vehicles, whether on miles of gravel roads or challenging forest tracks. Along the way, you get up close with the rugged, vast wilderness, whilst enjoying a great sense of freedom and solitude.
In late summer and autumn, you can find a wide variety of nature’s bounty – in the form of mushrooms and berries – in the immediate surroundings. How about a mushroom ragout with fresh lingonberries after a fulfilling day out in the Swedish countryside, or blueberry pancakes prepared over an open fire?
During the Swedish Indian summer, nature blooms once more with its vibrant shades of yellow and red. At this special time of year, most tourists have already left, the air is clearer, and dusk sets in earlier - perfect moments to spot reindeer, moose, and even bears.
Jämtland and the associated landscape of Härjedalen offer visitors plenty to see on sightseeing trips. Popular excursions include trips to Ljungdalen and up to Flatruet mountain pass, or a visit to Jämtland’s only city, Östersund, and Sweden’s fifth-largest lake, Storsjön - home to the legendary Storsjö monster Storsjöodjuret - as well as its islands and nature reserves. Åre is also not too far away, and a trip to Ristafallet and Tännforsen are a popular choice. Further south, you can explore Sånfjället Nationalpark or the region around Klövsjö and Vemdalen, which offer many highlights for excursions.
